The Pataxo tribe have a history of creating an array of jewellery designs of many different shapes and uses. This necklace sits beautifully on the neck with its circular shape, rich colour and a stylish look; made from the heavy seeds of the Tento Carolina tree.

The Pataxo inhabit several villages in the far south of Bahia and the north of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Contact with non-Indians since the sixteenth century has often forced the Pataxó to hide their customs. Pataxó today strive to enliven the Patxohã; their language and rituals "of old”. Their population is approximately 11800 persons.

Xapiri supports Amazonian indigenous culture by unifying ethical art, emotive photography and informative media. The vision is to increase awareness and inspire positive change.
